SEASONAL MIXES

by Dr. Cristina Allen, ND

The Blue Jays. The perennial underdogs of baseball. They took us on that wild journey through the World Series, each game a lesson in endurance, each inning a study in how a flock survives only by moving as one. They reminded us that even the smallest team, given enough grit and grace, can rattle giants.

In their rise and heartbreak, I felt the season shifting. That hinge point between Fall and Winter, when the last leaves loosen their grip and tumble away. When the land exhales and begins its long inward turn. Teaching us grief as a form of release, a clearing of the field so deeper wisdom can take root.

The Jays prepared us for Winter, for the quiet season of fear and reflection, when the world narrows to bone and root and we learn to trust what lies hidden beneath the snow. Their run reminded us that heartbreak can be instructive, that endings have their own strange nourishment, and that even in defeat, something in us steadies for the long cold Winter months ahead.

It’s time friends, to settle in, transform our fears into inspiration, and journey through the Winter months.

This is Dr. Cristina. Thanks for tuning in.

Let’s go.

I hope you’ve been spending these hot Summer days close to water. Floating, swimming, or simply listening to the waves breathe against the shore.

Maybe you’ve stretched out in a meadow watching clouds drift like slow moving boats. Lungs filled with the sweet exhale of pines and grasses. Nothing but clean air carrying the scent of life itself.

Summer medicine is simple: Wake up with the early light, nap when the heat grows heavy, and stay awake long enough to watch meteors stitch silver lines across the sky.

Let the sun warm you so deeply that your bones loosen. Your joints sigh. Eat foods that make you sweat. Chillies. Herbs. The wild spices of the season. Go barefoot on the Earth. Dance where no floor exists. Let water hold you. Cold and strong. And laugh from the belly when the mushrooms peak.

Summer is the season of joy.

Thanks, friends, let’s dive in!

Thanks friends, for coming along.

Something about where the world is at right now has me reminiscing a lot about the late 90s and early 2000s. Back when I used to make mixtapes and volunteered at the college radio station.

I lost a few dear friends over the Summer. These friends have forever impacted me with their shared punk rock attitudes and deep feeling.

Fittingly, Fall is the season of grief.

So I’ve been grieving their loss and the events of the Spring and Summer, by shedding tears with the trees as they shed their leaves, and listening to a lot of hardcore adjacent tunes.

This mix is inspired by my Fall soundtrack, covering some of my favourite genres.

Thank you friends, for tuning in!
